ASA begins MEM nonstop

     Atlantic Southeast (ASA) begins nonstop service between PHX and Memphis (MEM) this month. The airline will use the CRJ-900 once daily on this route operating as Delta Connection. This is currently the only ASA flight operating from PHX. Mesaba (Delta Connection) and Mesa (U S Airways Express) also operate nonstop flights on this route. ASA uses a gate at Terminal 3 while at PHX.


     Southwest begins nonstop service to Newark (EWR) this month. The airline will use the Boeing 737-700 on this route. Continental (United) and U S Airways also operate nonstop flights between these cities. Southwest operates many daily flights to numerous destinations from gates at Terminal 4 while at PHX. 

     Sun Country discontinues all flights to PHX this month. The airline had nonstop flights to Minneapolis (MSP) from PHX using the Boeing 737-800 or 737-700 from a gate at Terminal 3. Sun Country is expected to resume PHX service this fall.

     Westjet drops nonstop service to Edmonton (YEG) from PHX this month. The airline was using the 737-700 nonstop between these cities. U S Airways continues to operate nonstop flights to YEG from PHX. Westjet still operates a nonstop flight to Calgary (YYC) and uses an International gate at Terminal 4 at PHX.

     Frontier returns the Airbus A318 to the PHX schedule on select flights to Denver (DEN) this month. The airline has used the aircraft type at PHX in the past but generally has used the A319 on flights to PHX. Frontier uses gates at terminal 3 while at PHX on flights to Denver and Milwaukee.

     Republic returns the E170 on a limited number of flights from Denver (DEN) to PHX this month. The airline operates as Frontier at PHX and has used the aircraft type off and on in the past.  Republic generally uses the E190 on PHX flights and operates from a gate at Terminal 3.

     Continental (United) returns the Boeing 737-500 on a very limited number of flights to PHX from Houston (IAH) this month. The airline has used the aircraft type at PHX in the past. Continental uses a variety of aircraft types to several destinations from gates at Terminal 2 while at PHX.

     Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (IWA) continues to see numerous construction projects in and around the airfield. For construction update information at IWA, refer to the information page located on the official IWA website located here:   http://www.phxmesagateway.org/PressRoom.aspx

     Construction associated with the airports new automated train continues around the eastern area of the airport. Road closures and delays can be expected because of this construction. The PHX Sky Train as it will be known is scheduled to begin running between the Phoenix Metro Light Rail at 44th Street and Washington and the East Economy parking lot and Terminal 4 in a couple of years. It is scheduled to continue on to the Rental Car Center west of the airport by the year 2020. More info on the PHX Sky Train can be found on the official Sky Harbor website located here:

     Construction continues on numerous other projects in and around Sky Harbor airport. Many of these projects may affect spotting / photographing and driving in and around the airport.
